The content in the newly edited version of the presentation “From Slave Life to Thug Life” is a comprehensive and chronological look at the exploitation of African Americans in North America from the 18th century to the 21st century, resulting in the negative attitude and violent behavior of today's black youth.

The documentary-style presentation consists of two parts.  Part one covers topics such as the Willie Lynch Doctrine, Harlem Renaissance, 1960's black power, and 1970's blaxploitation.  Part two begins with the 1980's hip-hop, 1990's gangsta rap, female rappers, private prison industrial complex, overcoming a slave mentality, and the strategic marketing of hip-hop products to young people.  The information is presented with a historic yet contemporary perspective that is both informative and entertaining.

The presentation consists of more than one hundred images.  It includes both audio and video clips and is designed to challenge student's values on popular culture (Hip-Hop) and compel them to make a decision on if they are going to continue to embrace a "thug life” mentality or take advantage of America's educational system.
